What to prepare

Preparing for PCIP

Gather the essential book and publication details before submitting your PCIP request. Complete and consistent information helps the cataloging process move more efficiently.

Before you apply

What should be finalized before I request PCIP?

Your title page and copyright page should be final or very close to final, because catalogers use them as the authoritative sources for the title, subtitle, authorship, publisher, publication date, and other key details.

What information should I have ready?

Review each item before submitting your request. The information should match the wording and details shown inside the book.

Book pages
  • Final or near-final title page

Include the exact title, subtitle, author names, and other title-page information.

  • Final or near-final copyright page

The copyright page should contain the publication and ownership details intended for the final book.

  • Author and contributor names

Provide each name exactly as it should appear in the published book.

  • Contributor roles

Identify roles such as author, editor, illustrator, translator, or photographer.

Publication details

Provide the confirmed or expected publication date.

  • ISBN for each format or binding

List the correct ISBN for every edition or format included in the request.

Book content
  • Brief book description or summary

Provide a clear overview of the book’s subject, scope, and purpose.

This is especially important for nonfiction and works covering several subjects.

  • Target audience or reading level

Include this information when it is relevant to the book’s intended readers.

Keep all details consistent

Names, titles, publisher information, dates, and ISBNs should match across the application, title page, copyright page, and other submitted materials.
